Time For Baseball And Mlb Predictions For 2011

Break out the binoculars, get your favorite team gear ready to go, the major league baseball season is just getting started around the country, and as is a rite of spring as well known as opening up the barbeque in the backyard for the first time, it is time for mlb predictions.

It took more than 50 years, but finally, in 2010, the San Francisco Giants captured a world series title. Behind a young and ridiculously talented pitching staff led by Tim Lincecum and the wacky but talented Brian Wilson out of the bullpen, the Giants have to be considered in every conversation about who might win it all this year.

Any dreams the Giants have could be dashed by the Philadelphia Phillies. The San Francisco pitching staff is fantastic, but the staff in Philadelphia may be better. Cliff Lee. Roy Oswalt. Cole Hamels. Roy Halladay. Those names will cause batting coaches to wake up in a cold sweat, and make General Managers around the majors go searching high and low for more offensive production.

Managers are big names in the National League. One big name that is gone is in Atlanta, where Bobby Cox has finally stepped aside in Atlanta, replaced by Fredi Gonzalez. And the National League Central is littered with top skippers, including Tony La Russa in St. Louis, where the Cardinals have some of the best fans in the game, and are always one of the teams to beat. And in Cincinnati, Dusty Baker manages a Reds squad that was 20 games above the break even mark last year, and he is looking for a repeat.

The battle in the American League, as always, includes the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers still send out a lineup that includes Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, two of the best every day players in history. And the pitching staff still has CC Sabathia and Mariano Rivera. Enough said right there, the Yankees are one of the teams to watch.

Up the seaboard in Boston, Joe Girardi continues to manage the Red Sox. The BoSox still send out names like David Ortiz and Jason Veritek, as well as 44-year old knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.

The surprise in 2010 was the Texas Rangers. Led by Most Valuable Player Josh Hamilton and the rest of a lineup that has great hitters top to bottom, Texas may again be a major player in the chase to the Fall Classic. One factor for them to watch Is fatigue. Their off-season was the shortest in the league. Add that to the fact they do face the daunting task of another summer in the Texas heat, and it might add up to be too much to overcome.

162 games per team, all spring and summer, major league baseball will dominate the sports headlines for the next six or seven months. No lockouts here to annoy sports fans. It is all baseball on-field action, all the time.
