Macau gambling thrives

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

The latest government figures show casino revenue in Macau jumped 33 per cent in January from a year earlier to .3 billion. Much of those profits come from hordes of mainland Chinese gamblers, flocking to play in the nearby enclave, which is the only place in China where gambling is legal. Why Do So Many Foreign Football Fans Support Manchester United

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Nemanja Vidic, the Serbian Captain and Manchester United defender has dismissed speculation that he plans to leave the club. He has been repeatedly linked to big money moves abroad to Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

There is a long standing debate that most Manchester United supporters aren’t from Manchester, many are from London and the majority are not even from England. And it’s true, the club has a huge national following and an even bigger international following.

Many are genuine fans, who watch every game, agonise over every stat and judge every player. But there are more who are simply referred to as ‘glory supporters’. Individuals who have chosen to support Manchester United simply to be safe in the knowledge that sooner or later, they will deliver victory.

What is possibly the worst part of the whole debacle; Capello did not even have the courtesy to consult Beckham before making his decision public. One of the countries most internationally capped players woke up to newspapers announcing the end of his career, a fate not deserved by someone who has given so much to the sport.

His new 90,000-a-week contract will make him one of the highest paid players on the squad and the extension takes his deal up to a massive 18.72m.

World cup players, of which there are many among Manchester United, are excused from their latest USA tour, including Vidic, so he will make the deal official when he returns from his holiday. With the possibility of veterans such as Ryan Giggs and Edwin Van Der Sar going into retirement, Vidic could become one of the more senior figures in the locker room.

Wayne Rooney’s contract, which currently has two years left to run, will be under discussion as the club attempts to extend it. Vidic’s decision to stay is a huge plus for the team considering Rio Ferdinand’s fitness problems and the general uncertainty of their defence.

It is very common to travel through an impoverished village in deepest Africa and see someone in a Manchester United Football Shirt or kicking around in a pair of Nike Mercurial boots.
