When a full-blown compulsive gambling addiction is present, it’s pretty obvious. Outsiders can see that there’s a preoccupation with the attainment of money to go play a particular game, fantasizing about the outcome, a lack of other normative behaviors or a discounting of other normal behaviors. It’s more important to see the subtler pre-addiction symptoms developing in the individual, the potential gambling addict. It’s a gradual increase, a little bit more here, a little bit more there …
